Schwallier's Country Basket on 9 Mile Road in Sparta has been a family-run orchard and market on the apple-growing Ridge north of Grand Rapids since 1989. Its 2026 fall hours run from September 8 through October 31.
What are the fall hours?
Monday through Friday from 7 AM to 6 PM, and Saturday and Sunday from 9 AM to 6 PM.
What is free?
The children's play area, with a barn slide, swing set, ducky races, a straw mountain and a shelled corn sandbox, and the goat petting area. On weekends a free tractor wagon ride takes you around the orchard to pick apples.
What is the Back 40?
A play area around the big corn maze, with combine tube slides, inner tube slides, a jump pad, a rock labyrinth, a bounce track and apple cannons. It is open all day on weekends, last tickets at 5 PM, for $16 per person, with kids 3 and under free. Apple cannon ammo is an extra $5 a bucket.
What do we pay for?
Apples and pumpkins you pick, donuts, cider, lunch from the cafe and anything from the market.
