Anderson Orchard on East Greencastle Road in Mooresville is an apple orchard with nearly 30 varieties you can pick yourself or buy in its Apple Barn. U-pick opened on Saturday, August 22, and the season usually runs until just before Thanksgiving.
What are the fall hours?
Every day from 8 AM to 8 PM, with u-pick closing at 7 PM. That makes an after-school or after-work stop easy.
Is there more to pick than apples?
Yes. Pumpkins are among the u-pick crops, including minis, white pumpkins, pie pumpkins and gourds, and u-pick sunflowers are available every day. The orchard also lists red raspberries, blue plums and chestnuts through the season.
What will the kids enjoy?
There is a straw pile, swings, a playground, an apple tree photo cut-out and an education center about how apples grow. On weekends in September and October the concession stand serves apple cider, cider slush, caramel apples, hot dogs and fried apple pies.
