Home / 2026 Sunflower Fields - 260 Farms in 9 States
2026 season
🌻 Sunflower Fields
260 farms across 9 states, 166 of them with a confirmed 2026 season date taken from the farm's own site. None are estimated or copied from another directory.
A sunflower field in full bloom is one of the prettiest places to take the family in early fall. The rows of flowers stand taller than the kids, they make great photos, and at many farms you can cut a few to take home. Sunflowers have a short bloom window, so timing matters more than for most farm outings. Of the 260 farms with sunflower fields in our directory, 247 also have pumpkins and 175 run hayrides, so a sunflower visit often doubles as a fall farm day.

When to go in 2026
Most sunflower fields open around Sep 14 and close around Oct 31. 86% of the closing dates farms have posted are on or before November 1, so don't leave it too late. Farms in Indiana, Michigan, New York and Pennsylvania tend to open first (around Sep 12), and those in California last (around Sep 26). Hoping for a quieter weekday trip? Of the 194 farms that publish their fall hours, 49 (25%) are closed Monday through Thursday, so check the farm's hours before you go. These figures come from the 2026 dates 166 of the 260 farms have posted themselves, and update as more farms post theirs.
What parents usually want to know
When are sunflowers in bloom?
A single planting is at its best for only a week or two, so bloom depends on when the farm planted. Many farms plant in stages to stretch the season, and many post bloom updates on their page or social media. The dates on this page are each farm's fall season, and the sunflowers themselves are usually at their peak for a shorter stretch within it, so check the latest bloom update before you go.
Can we cut sunflowers to take home?
At many farms, yes, usually for a price per stem or per bunch. Ask whether to bring clippers or whether the farm lends them, since sunflower stalks are thick. Some fields are for looking and photos only, so check the farm's rules first.
What about bees?
Sunflowers attract bees, which are usually busy with the flowers and uninterested in people. Teach kids not to swat at them, and if anyone in the family has a bee allergy, bring their medication.
When is the best time for photos?
Early morning and the hour before sunset give the softest light, and the flowers face the morning sun. If you are planning family photos, note that some farms charge professional photographers separately or require them to book, so check the farm's page.
Is it good for toddlers and little kids?
Yes. Just keep little ones close, since tall flowers make it easy to lose sight of a small child. Rows are uneven and can be muddy, so a sturdy wagon or a carrier works better than a stroller.
What should we wear and bring?
Bring sun protection, since sunflower fields have little shade, plus water and closed-toe shoes. Long sleeves help if you'll be walking between the stalks, which are rough and scratchy.
When is it least crowded?
Weekday mornings are usually the quietest, and weekend afternoons in peak bloom the busiest. Many farms are closed early in the week, so check the hours on the farm's page first.

How these dates are checked
Every season date on this page was read off the farm's own website, Facebook page or ticket store, then checked against this year's calendar. A page still advertising last fall's dates is rejected rather than republished. Farms with no date yet simply have not posted one; more do as the season nears. How we verify season dates →
